Thanks for the great journey!
" finished the book. I was astonished by the rapid fire and ever increasingly dramatic conclusion. I don't think I have ever read anything quite so compelling. Everything was woven together beautifully and could only have been done so by someone who had actually lived through similar experiences in the court room. Larry, this is one fine book.... expertly written! Get to work on your next one! Please! "
A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"There is no staying on the sidelines with this book. From the first few pages Thompson skillfully weaves an intriguing world of morale beliefs, religion, science, law. One that will grip your attention from the get go and won't let go till the very end! This is a writer to keep your eye on...."
I finished Larry's book. It was great!!

"It was surprising to me that I was not able to really see his personal stance on abortion. Of course, a fanatic pastor makes it easy to start pointing fingers. It did make me think about a variety of issues I had never before considered. That being said, it didn't change my mind on my stance on abortion, but it did make me see other sides of the debate. So, I hope he has a great run with it."

“Seldom does a first effort at courtroom fiction find itself in the class of such notables as Inherit the Wind, The Verdict, and The Rainmaker. But, Larry Thompson’s So Help Me God belongs there. I predict it will become a modern day classic courtroom tale.”

"I met the author of this book, who encouraged me to write an Amazon review after I read the book. I agreed with hesitation because I don't usually read this type of book. I was very impressed at how he was able to take possibly the most polarizing issue in our society and present many viewpoints without obvious bias. His characterizations were well done and it was intriguing to see the relationships between the judges and lawyers. I might add that I am a physician and always jumpy at the idea of malpractice; I was quite relieved that Zeke was presented as a very sympathetic character. So yes, Mr. Thompson, I do highly recommend this book to others. This would make a great movie, too!"

“I hated to finish that last page of So Help Me God. It's like a glass of good wine. It captures the tension and excitement of a big lawsuit, the courtroom scenes are both realistic and spell-binding, particularly the cross-examination of the experts on the issue of when life begins."

“His novel is a wonderful, insightful exploration of the most legislated and litigated area in all of medicine – abortion. As an obstetrician who has both a medical and now increasingly strong grasp of the legal issues in this great debate, I found that Mr. Thompson has struck at the very heart of the problem from both perspectives”

“SO HELP ME GOD is inarguably the best fiction novel I have read in years! The book is imaginative in the characters chosen and their personalities, backgrounds and their respective roles. It is undeniably a “Texan” novel. The courtroom drama is easy to follow and understand and quite captivating. It is impossible to put this book down! Kudos to Mr. Thompson for his first novel. Your brother, Tommy Thompson, would be very proud of you! I look forward to the sequel.”

“It is a great book and one that keeps the reader anxiously awaiting the next unexpected turn of events and the final outcome.”
Rob Sparks, Texas Bar Journal
“Finished it over the weekend... hard to believe it's your first effort. You really know your way around a courtroom and the back and forth between the two sides, both in and out of court made for a great pace. You have a unique ability to put someone in the story. Like describing when someone thinks about something and not knowing when they thought about it at a grocery store, traffic light etc... things like that. The reader literally finds himself nodding in agreement because low and behold that's how it really happens. That's what sets all of the good ones apart, having the reader identify w/ the character, so much so that they believe it's actually happening which allows you to live within the book. You've got that down.”

I just finished reading your novel and enjoyed it very much. Your write-ups of the courtrooms scenes were especially efficient and elegant. I learned of your book through a DRI posting. My practice is somewhat like yours in including defense of physicians and healthcare providers. I need to ask you: did you actually have a matter that resembled the Brady v. Population Planning case in the novel? Such cases really do exist. I had one in which the plaintiff sought to establish through an informed consent claim that the fetus was a "human being" and that the physician had to advise the patient that in doing the procedure there would be the taking of the life of an existing, unique, separate and irreplaceable human being. The roll of experts for that case echoed those in your book with the inclusion of a pediatric neurologist, neonatologist, embryologist, pediatrician, obstetrician, bioethicist and so on. I prevailed on a motion for summary judgment and will be arguing the appeal next month. Your trial scenes have given some additional ideas to contemplate. All the best with this book and your next one!

I'm a member of Reading Women of AAUW in Palm Coast FL. I recently read your book and enjoyed it very much. I started it thinking it was a right-to-life screed and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a balanced recounting of unfortunate events. The "lawyering" parts of the story were very interesting. I'm passing the book on to other members in our group (two of whom have retired lawyer husbands) with my recommendation as a good read.

“No writer alive knows the courtroom any better than trial lawyer-turned-novelist Larry D. Thompson. He stakes out the grey area between morality and the law, cranks up the tension, and delivers a powerful story with compelling characters. So Help Me God is a richly texured tale of religion and law, politics and medicine. When the gavel sounds in Thonpson's courtroom, the reader snaps to attention.”

“So Help Me God is not only a page-turner bu a warning as well. Through a deft, fascinating story-line Larry D. Thompson shows us what can happen here if we are not careful.”
